New full-frame camera sensor

3DroneMapping has been testing and setting up their new full-frame, 42MP sensor. This camera combined with a flat, distortion free lens has revolutionized our work flow and given unheard of accuracies.

Over the years, we have had reliable sensors that will work in trying conditions like high heat, dust, vibration, etc. We have always tried to keep at the very edge of available technology since our clients do not pay us to fly but to produce accurate and consistent data. Our evolution has taken us from the tried and true Canon S100 12MP, a similar spec'd Canon IXUS 16MP, the Sony WX500 20MP, the Sony A6000 24MP and now a full frame 42MP with 35mm lens.

This increase in resolution dramatically increases server load time for all photogrammetric processes. But the trade off is offest by very sharp, clear images and dense pointclouds. It is now possible to "see" between tree branches and lease, making the ground more visible.

Accuracies too have increased and become more consistent. 0.02m horizontal and 0.03m vertical misclosures are now possible at 400ft AGL.
